Frequently Asked Questions

General

  • What is PushPilot Notifications

PushPilot Notifications is a WordPress plugin that lets you send push notifications directly to your website visitors’ browsers. When a visitor allows notifications on your site, they become a subscriber. You can then send them updates, promotions and announcements that appear as a pop-up on their screen even when they are not on your website.

  • How does it work?

When a visitor lands on your website, a prompt appears asking if they want to receive notifications. If they click Allow, they become your subscriber. Whenever you send a notification, it is delivered through Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and appears as a pop-up on their browser or device

  • Do I need coding skills to use PushPilot?

No. There is no coding required at any stage. Setup involves creating a Firebase project, copying a few credentials and pasting them into the plugin settings. Everything else is managed from your WordPress dashboard.

  • Does the plugin slow down my website?

No. The plugin is built to be lightweight and runs in the background without affecting your website speed or performance.

  • What browsers and devices support push notifications?

Push notifications work on most modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox and Edge on both desktop and mobile devices. Your website must be on HTTPS for push notifications to work.

  • Does PushPilot work on iOS (iPhone and iPad)?

Push notifications on iOS require iOS 16.4 and above with a supported browser. If you have questions about iOS compatibility, contact us.

  • Do I need an SSL certificate or HTTPS website?

Yes. Push notifications require your website to run on HTTPS. If your site is still on HTTP, contact your hosting provider to enable HTTPS before setting up PushPilot.

  • Why should I use push notifications instead of just email or social media?

Email open rates can be low and social media content often gets buried in feeds. Push notifications are delivered instantly to your subscriber’s screen and have significantly higher engagement rates, making them a more direct and effective way to reach your audience.

  • What happens if I don’t use push notifications?

Without push notifications, you rely only on email and social media to reach your audience. Push notifications give you a direct channel that you own completely, independent of any algorithm or inbox filter.

  • Who is PushPilot suitable for?

PushPilot works for any WordPress website. It is suitable for bloggers, online stores, news websites, coaching websites, service businesses and anyone who regularly publishes content or wants to stay in touch with their visitors.

  • Can I measure the success of my notifications?

Yes. PushPilot includes built-in analytics covering click-through rates, delivery rates, bounce rates, subscriber growth, opt-in performance and more. You can also export all analytics data as a CSV.

  • Can I see a demo before signing up?

You can sign up for a free account with no credit card required and try the plugin on your website. If you need a guided demo, contact us.

Plans and Pricing

  • What counts as a subscriber?

A subscriber is a unique user who has actively opted in to receive push notifications on your website and is currently active. Inactive and unsubscribed users are not counted towards your plan limit.

  • What is the difference between the Free and Paid plans?

All plans include the same core features. The only difference is the number of active subscribers you can send notifications to. Paid plans additionally include Advanced Analytics, A/B Testing, Media Upload, CTA Buttons, Segmentation, UTM Tracking and Scheduling.

  • Is the Free plan time limited?

No. The Free plan is free forever with no expiry and no trial period. You can use it for as long as your active subscriber count stays within the 12,000 limit.

  • Do I need a credit card for the Free plan?

No. You can sign up and start using the Free plan without entering any payment information.

Yes. Firebase Cloud Messaging is completely free for web push notifications. You do not need to add billing details to your Firebase account for normal usage with PushPilot.

  • How long does Firebase setup take?

Around 10 minutes. Our step by step guide walks you through creating a project, getting your credentials and entering them into the plugin.

  • Do I need any technical knowledge to set up Firebase?

No. The process involves creating a project, copying a few values and uploading one file. No coding is required. Follow the Firebase Setup guide in our documentation for full instructions.

It is recommended to create a separate Firebase project for each website to keep your subscriber data and credentials separate.
